Dog and Cat Rescue Samui Foundation

The Dog and Cat Rescue Samui Foundation is a non-profit organisation that takes care of abandoned street dogs and cats. Although many people find Koh Samui to be a picture-perfect paradise, it’s not that friendly an environment if you are a stray animal.

For this reason, the people behind the foundation have started to take the initiative to ensure that these animals get the care that they need.

The founders, Brigitte Gomm and Danny van Urk met on the island. Danny was already a resident living on Koh Samui, and she spent much of her time and personal resources trying to help the stray animals by giving them injections, medications, and treatment for a range of conditions. But without the presence of a vet, they were still unable to help those that had serious injuries.

With the help of their friends, they eventually opened in April 1999 with a small clinic located at the end of Chaweng Road. Because of them, they have been able to provide the island’s dogs and cat with professional veterinary attention and prevent the death of more animals.

Thanks to the help of generous donations, they have opened a new branch of the Dog and Cat Rescue Samui Foundation in another location at Taling Ngam. Today, they can now offer a wide range of treatment to dogs and cats including injections for rabies, sterilisation by spaying or castration, and medications for mange, worms, or any injury or sickness. In doing so, not only are the animals given a second chance at life, but the people living in Koh Samui can also worry less about the dangers of being exposed to these animals.
