Koh Samui Attractions, Things to Do, Places To Visit & Tourist Sites To See
The Big Buddha is an iconic sight on Samui. The golden, 12-meter high statue is elevated atop a platform featuring traditional décor as well as dragons. Locals typically visit the Big Buddha to pray, but during recent years, foreign visitors have also made this a popular stop in their itinerary. The best time to visit is during sunset when it isn’t too hot.
A visit to Koh Samui would not be complete without the Samui Elephant Sanctuary. Spanning 10 acres in size, the reserve is where majestic elephants come to spend their retirement years. This is an excellent opportunity to give the elephants some love, especially after they spent a long time in abusive tourism trades. Visitors can come for the day and opt from several packages that allow you to interact with these gentle creatures.
Take a stroll to explore the Fishermans Village located in Bophut. It’s quaint and charming; offering visitors a multitude of choices when it comes to restaurants, shops, and even resorts and guesthouses. However, the main highlight of the Fishermans Village is the presence of the historic Chinese-Thai wooden homes – some of which were built as far back as the 19th century.
Attractions on Koh Samui are not always about its parties and beautiful beaches; there are also several unique landscapes worth checking out. Be sure to stop by the Hin Ta Hin Yai Grandfather and Grandmothers Rocks, incredible rock formations that resemble female and male genitalia, hence its name.
Other destinations worth visiting include the Secret Buddha Garden, Central Festival Samui, Pink Elephant Samui Water Park, and the Na Mueang Waterfalls.
Koh Samui attractions are abundant in exciting activities and beautiful beaches, but also rich in culture and heritage.
