Maenam Walking Street is such a vibrant shopping destination in Koh Samui. Filled with many lovely finds and a host of characters, this area is a must-visit for anyone travelling to the island.
Even though it’s only a few hundred meters long, the market here is filled to the brim with dozens of exciting vendors, stalls, and even colourful mobile cocktail bars.

From fried grasshoppers and corn on the cob to classic Thai food including curries, noodle soups, sausages, pork sticks and more; there is something for all cravings here, and you will never go hungry. Some of the goods you can expect to find here include street food, denim goods, souvenir t-shirts, colourful handicrafts, aromatic oils, jewellery, handmade soaps, music instruments, sunglasses, and even cocktails that cost only 50 Baht!
At the end of the market, you will see a Chinese temple that’s worth it for the photo ops. Beside the Chinese temple there are also several stalls worth checking out – especially those selling Indian food, burgers, and lasagne. For refreshments, you’ll be spoiled for choice with the smoothies, juices, and other delicious drinks available throughout the market.
It’s only open in the evenings, providing you with another option for night-time excursions on Thursday nights while in Koh Samui. Take your time as you go from one vendor to another, but don’t forget to haggle since that is the norm here anyway. Live music is also played by talented Thai locals, and even occasionally an ex-pat.
On the market’s perimeter are several bars and cafes from where you can enjoy people watching, or simply appreciate how the street transforms itself late in the afternoon.
Maenam Walking Street is found in the city centre, open every Thursday from 5pm onwards.
