Sai Daeng Beach

Sai Daeng Beach is a small, relaxing sandy beach in Koh Tao. It is renowned for its sparkling crystal clear waters and the terrific views of Shark Island.

The best time to visit is around sunset when you can see the magnificent “golden Shark Island” phenomenon right before the sun disappears.

Life underwater and above water here is incredibly spectacular. The marine life makes this a top scuba diving and snorkelling spot; it’s known for sightings of sea turtles and blacktip sharks which reside in the nearby Taa Som Bay and Thian Og Bay.

The best areas for snorkelling are found on the beach’s west and east coasts, where you’ll also see some colourful corals. When it comes to swimming, check out the Cape Gong Sai Daeng area up to Hin Ngan.

This beach is also the closest one to Shark Island. With a kayak, you can easily reach Shark Island in just 30 minutes or less. And while you can swim here, keep in mind that you need to be very good at swimming because the currents may be overpowering at times. Kayaking around the peninsula is also a great way to explore other nearby coves and bays that are just as beautiful.

The rocks on the beach also provide a good landscape for mild trekking. Just wear some good shoes, and you’re good to go. A few meters up on the rocks will already give you picturesque views, so don’t forget to bring a camera along.

There are only a few hotels, private villas and resorts to choose from in this area. Regardless of which you choose, you will get to enjoy world-class accommodation and stunning views of the beach.

Getting to Sai Daeng Beach will require passing through one of a few resorts. Even though they are private property, they allow guests to pass through to get to the beach area, and there is no entrance fee.
