Tanote Bay

Tanote Bay is home to some of the best snorkelling, diving, and viewpoints in Koh Tao.

Located on the east coast, the bay is surrounded by lush foliage, rolling hills, and big boulders, especially those that are found right in the centre of the bay.

Tanote Bay Accommodation, Beach Hotels, Resorts & Villas, Koh Tao

This bay is more remote than other popular beaches, so it offers seclusion. If this sounds like something you’d like to experience, staying at one of the hotels here is highly recommended.

All establishments are built a reasonable distance from the shore, so the bay is spacious, and you get to enjoy terrific snorkelling without having to take a boat away from the beach. The rocks that punctuate the bay have become home to many colourful small fish including triple tail wrasse, barred rabbitfish, and sergeant fish. If you’d like to discover the nearby islands and beaches, kayaking can be arranged.

Despite the presence of hotels, bars, and restaurants, what’s great about this beach is that it remains quiet. The sand is coarse and the water is perfect for swimming all year round. Enjoy al fresco dining in one of the many terrific seafood and Thai restaurants. At night, if you’d like to enjoy some action, you can easily head over to Sairee or Mae Haad beach.

While the beautiful Tanote Bay isn’t a party beach, getting around is easy. This is truly a place where relaxation is king, evident in the tranquil atmosphere all around.

There is an excellent range of accommodation options here, too. From fan-room bungalows to cosy villas, budget hotels to more upscale resorts, you’ll surely find something here.

During your free time, explore the nearby viewpoints that give you breathtaking vistas of the sea and nearby islands. It is one of the most picturesque areas in Koh Tao, and you won’t regret staying here.
