Aside from meditation, vipassana (silent) retreats are also available. Depending on the package or type of program you’d like to participate in, they all have varying fees and most already include accommodation and meals. Regardless of which program you choose at Wat Khao Tham, everything is conducted by an experienced meditation teacher.
When participating at a retreat, visitors need to keep in mind that there is an appropriate dress code. All must wear loose-fitting and modest clothing for the duration of the retreat. The midriff, chest, and shoulders should always be covered. Yoga pants, as well as tight shirts and pants, are not allowed. Shoes that can easily be removed, such as sandals or flip flops, are recommended.
The food provided during the retreat is ovo-lacto vegetarian, which means that milk and eggs are used. Local spices, including chilli are also used in cooking. Retreat participants who have special dietary needs are advised to contact the kitchen staff ahead of time.
If you are interested in participating in a meditation retreat in one of Thailand’s most beautiful areas, look no further than the Wat Khao Tham. It is located above the Baan Tai town area, amongst forested hills on Koh Phangan Island.
