Wat Na Phra Lan, Buddhist Temple History, Address, Maenam, Koh Samui
When visiting this temple, like others in Thailand, it’s necessary to wear proper clothing. Tourists should wear conservative clothing that covers the knees and shoulders. Wear tank tops or other shirts that bare the arms is not allowed. If you don’t have any clothing of such kind, you can also opt to bring a scarf or sarong which would give you adequate coverage.
When you come across the Buddha images or other sacred areas in the temple, follow temple etiquette by removing your shoes unless you have already been told beforehand to do so. It is also respectful to walk around the sacred objects following a clockwise manner. Avoid touching sacred objects found in the worship area, be quiet, don’t crack jokes, and don’t point at the image of Buddha.
If you’d like to spend more time at the Wat Na Phra Lan, most monks or other worshippers won’t mind. To get the most out of your experience, you may sit in front of the Buddha image with your legs tucked underneath. You may also take photos, just make sure that your back is not turned to the Buddha as this is considered rude and disrespectful. Avoid taking pictures of other worshippers while they are in prayer.
