Bangkok to Koh Phangan, Flights, Trains, Buses, Ferry, Travel Time & Prices
The travel time should take less than 3 hours, with about an hour’s flight and a 30-minute boat ride. Depending on the airline you take, it may be cheap or expensive; the most inexpensive flight will always be with a budget or low-cost carrier. If you book ahead of time, you may be able to save a significant amount of money on airfare.
There is also the option of taking a flight from the Don Muang DMK Airport in Bangkok directly to Surat Thani. It’s much cheaper than flying to the Koh Samui airport and takes a little longer, but these flights are generally more affordable. Many airlines flying out of Don Muang DMK Airport to Surat Thani offer fly and ride packages, which are already inclusive of the flight, bus transfer, and ferry transfer. These take out a lot of the hassles of doing everything yourself, and they tend to come out cheaper, too.
Budget travellers tend to prefer the night train, which is the longest way to get from Bangkok to Koh Phangan, but it’s also one of the cheapest. The train will take you to Surat Thani, and there are fan or AC options available. If you have the budget for it, you can also book a first-class ticket which is still significantly cheaper than a plane ride.
Taking a bus to Surat Thani is another option; it is the cheapest way to get there, but it can take up a whole day or more of travel time.
