If you have the luxury of time and are on a tight budget, taking a sleeper train to Koh Samui is also another good option. Although it takes much longer, as soon as you wake up you’ll already be at the Surat Thani train station. From here you can board a bus which takes you to the pier, from where you will take around 45 to 90 minutes on a ferry depending on the boat you choose. From the Hualamphong Train Station in Bangkok, there is the option of purchasing boat and train tickets combined to save you time.
