Travelling from Bangkok to Koh Tao requires a little more patience since it’s one of the more challenging islands in Thailand to get to.
However, it’s completely worth the time! Take note that there are no direct flights serving this route because Koh Tao doesn’t have its own airport.

You can also fly to Chumphon, then take a bus to the pier, and then a ferry which takes you directly to Koh Tao. Combination tickets offering bus and ferry fees are available with some airlines.
Lastly, there is also the option of flying to Surat Thani; from here, take a bus to the pier followed by a ferry to Koh Tao. This last route takes the longest compared to other flight routes.
You can also take a bus from Bangkok to Koh Tao. Taking a bus entails an 8-hour journey. It will take you to the Chumphon Pier, from where you can transfer to a catamaran that will take you to the Mae Haad Pier in Koh Tao. Overall, the bus journey will take around 10 hours. But considering that you are taking an air-conditioned bus and a high-speed catamaran, this option offers good value for your money.
From Bangkok, you can also take a train to Chumphon, followed by a bus and then finally a ferry to Koh Tao. Sleeper trains are generally comfortable and offer a wide range of choices, from fan rooms to air-conditioned bunks. The total travel time by train would be around 13 hours, but it isn’t so bad if you sleep on the train and wake up at your destination.
