Koh Phangan to Koh Tao

The only way to travel from Koh Phangan to Koh Tao is by fast boat or ferry. Currently, there are no airports in Koh Tao, but there are comfortable, affordable, and convenient ferries servicing this route.

There are also no train networks connecting the islands. However, the good news is that the ferry services are convenient and affordable.

There are three ferry companies that service this route. Although they are all generally inexpensive, they may vary slightly in terms of comfort and transit times. Ferry schedules also change frequently, so be sure to check the times before booking a ticket.

One ferry leaves the Thong Sala pier in Koh Phangan twice a day, at 8:30am followed by 1pm. It takes around one hour to get to Koh Tao, and occasionally they will add a third departure at either 2pm or 5:45pm depending on the demand. It costs around 550 baht.

A second ferry also departs the Thong Sala Pier, and the journey takes around an hour and a half. You can choose from three departures daily; one at 8:30am, another at 1:30pm, and the last one leaving Koh Phangan at 5pm. This costs around 430 baht.

The third and cheapest boat travelling from Koh Phangan to Koh Tao departs once a day at around 12:30pm, and the journey takes two hours. It costs 350 baht.

Upon arrival at Koh Tao, you’ll want to look into your transport options. Since the island is so small, there are no car rental companies. Motorcycle or scooter rentals are the preferred means of transport but remember that the roads are small and it’s necessary to have some experience.

Taxi services are limited to the songthaew or hiring a motorbike to drop you off. Longtail boat services can take you around the islands.
