All involve sea travel aboard a fast boat or ferry.
Surat Thani To Koh Tao, Ferry Times, Speedboat Prices & Boat Timetable
Most ferry operators that are headed for Koh Phangan stop by Koh Samui first. Two high-speed catamaran operators service this route. One has four departures daily; starting at 10am and the last one leaving at 6pm. The other has two departures a day; one at 11am and the last at 2:30pm. No matter which company you go with, the journey will take around 1.5 hours. Overall, travelling from the main town of Surat Thani to Koh Phangan will take you four hours.
The second option is to take a slower and cheaper ferry, which usually transports vehicles across the islands, but they also accept passengers. To use this service, you’ll have to head to the ticket office near Wichai Road in Surat Thani. The entire trip will take around 4 – 5.5 hours. This is an option you will want to keep in mind especially when travelling during the peak or Full Moon Party season, just in case you are unable to get a seat aboard a catamaran during the schedule of your choice.
The ferries will then dock at the Thong Sala Pier of Koh Phangan. Once you get down, you can hop on a songthaew at the pier but remember that they are likely offering inflated prices. To save on money, there is the option of walking 300 meters past the port and into the village where a taxi stand offers reasonably-priced rides within a shared vehicle.
