Thong Sala

Thong Sala is the main gateway to Koh Phangan. In the past, it was known as the next best beach party place after Haad Rin; but in the last few years, it has seen improvements and developments.

Today, it is one of the most scenic areas to come and enjoy terrific shopping, great restaurants, and fantastic food markets.

Thong Sala Accommodation, Beach Hotels, Resorts & Guest Houses

Located on Koh Phangan’s south-western area, this is where the primary financial and administrative centre is found. It is also where the post office is located.

Since it is the main port, getting around to and from nearby areas is very easy. It is connected to the south and north of the island through well-developed concrete roads. Just up north, you’ll find Chaloklum, another equally popular tourist area accessible by a short and quick ride. However, be cautious when travelling east to Haad Rin as the roads are notorious for being difficult and dangerous for inexperienced motorbike drivers.

In town, there are many useful facilities and services. These include banks, ATM’s, a post office, internet cafes, motorbike rental, tour and travel agencies, clinics, and convenience shops. Thong Sala is also where you’ll find two of the only Thai boxing stadiums in Koh Phangan, definitely worth of a visit especially if you’d like to see a live Muay Thai fight. Morning and evening markets can be found here too, selling fresh seafood, produce, fruit, meat, and much more.

The main town centre has some very good shopping. Whether you’d like to shop for souvenirs or necessities that you may have left behind, you’ll find it here. Don’t miss out on the beautiful Thai handmade goods; the locals are incredibly talented and sell many inexpensive artistic wares such as jewellery and other crafts.

Nightlife here is sparse compared to Haad Rin, but it still has its fair share of great bars that often party until the small hours of the morning. Restaurant choices run the gamut; from Thai to English, regional specialties, and cuisine from all over the world.
